Since the Torah was given to Moses, the 10 commandments have been extensively discussed and it is important for us believers to keep those in mind.
The scriptures are not always easy to understand. If you ask three people to read a passage, you might end up with three different interpretations. Because the Word can relate to your moment, to your values. Many people take advantage of that and use parts of verses without context to push many questionable agendas. This is why it is important not only to seek other people’s opinion, but read directly from the source and ask the Holy Spirit for clarity.
I will share my view on the 10 commandments, one each post. Please feel free to comment if you agree and also if you have a different point of view.
Let's get started :)
1. Yahuah above everything: it means, above everything. Above yourself, your spouse, even your children. Anything you love more than the Creator is idolatry, which breaks the second commandment. The 1st commandment is fair because you would not have anything else in your life if Yahuah had not allowed it, so to give Him the biggest importance is the least we can do.
And Yahuah's explanation to this first commandment is quite simple: He does not want anything above Him because He is jealous! isn't is amazing how we are indeed in his likeness? We all know how jealousy feels like, right? as I read it the first time I could not help smiling... Our Creator is jealous of our love! How many people in this world care so much about your love?
How do we make sure Yahuah is our top priority? What is the first thing that comes to your head when you wake up? and before you sleep? how much time do you spend during the day talking to our Creator? or do you spend most of your day thinking about yourself, work, money, someone else? what you prioritize is what is important for you. Do you place Yahuah above all?
Why is the 1st Commandment more important now than ever: Because humanity will be tried like never before and our life standards will degenerate quickly in the upcoming years and decades - we are approaching the end of times, maybe not as fast as some people think (or wish), but it is happening and our generation or the next generations will be hit hard. Only if we focus on Yahuah as our source of strength and His Son Yahusha for peace we will be able to keep sanity and hope.
